“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too. “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity. Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness. (‭Matthew‬ ‭23‬:‭23, 25-28‬ NLT)

God Doesn’t Recognize Sinners!!

This post is inspired by a small group discussion at my school’s IVC.

So our group was talking about the image of God in relation to us as human beings and it totally blew my mind so I thought i’d share.

Basically,

God created us in His image, and His plan was for us to live in and like His image, right?

So now if we look at Genesis where God calls out for Adam saying “Adam where are you?”

Why do you think He asked Adam that? Don’t you think God should have already known where Adam was? I mean He is GOD.

Well no, what we realized is that God asked “Adam, where are you?” because he could no longer recognize Adam because of Adams sin! Moreover, the image of God-which Adam was meant to be reflecting– became distorted!!

Now if you look at modern day society, we are so far in the game of sin and that passage shows us that what we need to do is clean up our image and try to be more like God and reflect a clearer picture of His image.

How do we do this? We do this by living like Christ: the Son of God. That is the only way God can recognize us, we need to be a better reflection of God, that’s the only way He can recognize us as His children…

Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” (‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬ NLT)

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬ NLT)
